First up, this blog! You’re on it! You’re reading it! It’s a WordPress blog!
Know
Creating and effectively using the blog required knowledge of the WordPress backend and idiosyncracies, as well as practices for citation and effective written communication skills. The use of a public blog is transformative in that allows for an ongoing, centralized, multimedia record of learning that can continue beyond the course end date and allows for authentic engagement with an audience and learning network.
Do
As above, the blog is a platform for exploring and reflecting on pedagogical approaches made possible by technology, as well as actively contributing to learning networks. These align with the following standards:
- “1a: Set professional learning goals to explore and apply pedagogical approaches made possible by technology and reflect on their effectiveness.” (ISTE, n.d.)
- “1b: Pursue professional interests by creating and actively participating in local and global learning networks.” (ISTE, n.d.)
Understand
Moving forward, I see this blog as a platform for routinely documenting and reflecting on my experiences in the classroom, as well as starting conversations with other educators on social media.
