Caveat: I’m not the teacher-librarian at my school, so this floor plan is from memory and thus almost certainly incorrect in some details, but the gist is there.
I used the web application Floorplanner to create this. The tables in the collaboration space are moveable, but they are large and the space they are in isn’t, so I don’t know that they are realistically very mobile. I believe the teacher-librarian is aware of these limitations and is looking into buying new tables. The shelving is stationary and I believe bolted down.
Although there are a lot of structural constraints here, I can think of a few changes I could make to improve the experience, like:
- Comfy seating (in a non-pandemic year) in the open space next to the tall shelving (assuming my size estimate is close to accurate)
- Smaller tables in the collaboration area to facilitate easier reconfiguration
- Putting in some storage for maker supplies on top of the two island shelves
