Privacy in BC Education

A few questions that came to mind while reading about the legal issues surrounding the sharing of student work.

  1. How does my home district monitor and enforce compliance with FOIPPA and sharing of student work?
  2. Given that most version control companies are based out of the United States (e.g., Github, Bitbucket), what options exist for FOIPPA-compliant software version control in secondary computer programming classes? Obviously installing a server on district-owned computers is one option, but an option that requires buy-in and potentially new knowledge from the district IT department.
  3. What legal rights do children/young adults have protecting them from parents sharing their information without consent?
